DUTIES

To develop and prepare lessons, instruct, assess and grade student achievement in the undergraduate programs of Recreation and Tourism in the Faculty of Management. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Applicants will have a solid background in a wide spectrum of instructional areas that may include (but not be limited to) the following in a recreation and tourism setting:

- Resort Management
- Organizational Leadership
- International Marketing
- Product Development
- Program and Event Management
- Volunteer Management
- Facilities Management
- Heritage Interpretation
- Statistical and Research Methods
- Law in Recreation and Tourism
- Sustainable Management Practice
- Innovative / Strategic Planning

The Recreation and Tourism Department is a well established area, successfully offering two diplomas, an on-line certificate and an undergraduate degree. The department is also working towards a Master of Arts degree focused on Sustainability and Innovation in Leisure, and, in collaboration with the World Leisure Organization will establish a Centre of Excellence to advance graduate education and research goals. VIU is home to the BC Regional Chair for Innovation and Sustainability in Rural Tourism and a Canada Research Chair in Coastal Research Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

A doctoral degree (or ABD) from an appropriately accredited institution and recent relevant teaching and research experience. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, with a strong interest and background working in a cross cultural and learning centered environment. We are seeking individuals interested in growing with the department and working in a shared leadership capacity. The candidate will have experience and willingness to contribute to research projects in the department. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on teaching and student learning; and will be responsive to diverse learning styles, cultural and academic backgrounds.

Preferred

Experience in graduate level teaching and/or supervision.
