Technology has long been instrumental to teaching and learning at Vancouver Island University. The need to link technology and teaching in new and effective ways that support the work of both students and faculty has, over time, brought faculty, staff, administrators, and technical experts together to discuss the ways in which VIU can provide better support for teachers and learners alike. We have needed to plan carefully given the high costs of adjusting to growing technological needs, and given the changed expectations of our students and our faculty.
In response to the April 2003 report by the Task Force on Education and Technology, Dr. David Thomas, Vice-President Academic, established the Academic Computing Steering Committee in April 2006 to advise on key faculty and student computing proposals and issues. The committee welcomes your input and invites your participation. Contact information is listed on subsequent pages of this site.
The committee's work will not only build upon the directions and priorities set out by the Task Force; it will also take into account the changes that have taken place in the Library and the new Learning Commons, the need to develop system standards for academic computing, and the ways in which the needs and facilities of the different Faculties have evolved.
