Entrance Awards are available only to students who are entering post-secondary studies for the FIRST TIME, unless otherwise stated.
Aurora NanoDevices Entrance Award
1 award, $500; available to students entering the Engineering program. To benefit students who demonstrate strong academic credentials and show good character, motivation to serve and succeed and commitment to the community, evidenced through leadership in school, civic and extra-curricular activities. Applicants will be required to include an essay (up to 500 words) describing how they fulfill the criteria and a copy of their high school transcript. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
BC Lions Society Advanced Education Fund Entrance Awards
2 awards, $600 each; available to students with a developmental, learning, neurological, sensory or physical disability, enrolling full-time in first year of university studies at VIU in the Fall term. Financial need will also be considered. Two application deadlines: March 15 & April 30. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Bruce Williams Entrance Award
1 award, $1,000; available to students who have progressed from an Adult Literacy program, and have successfully completed the Career & Academic Preparation Program at VIU, or another institution (verification will be required), and will be enrolling in full-time post-secondary studies at VIU in the fall. Two application deadlines: March 15 & April 30. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Canadian Federation of University Women - Cowichan Valley Award
1 award, $500; available to mature female students (minimum 20 years of age), enrolled or enrolling in any academic, technical, career or upgrading program at VIU, who have been a resident of the Cowichan Valley for at least one year, and who demonstrates financial need and academic achievement. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Canadian Federation of University Women - Nanaimo Re-Entry Award
1 award, $1,000; available to female students who have experienced an interruption of studies of at least two years, and who will be commencing full-time studies at VIU in the fall in a university program leading to a degree. Must have completed at least the equivalent of one year in a degree program. Also based on community service, excellent achievement, and financial need. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Canadian Hospitality Foundation - Jack C. Sim University Entrance Scholarship
1 award, $3,500; available to students in their final year of high school who will be enrolling in September in Hospitality Management or Tourism Management programs, for professional promise, leadership, scholastic ability and work experience. Canadian Hospitality Foundation - YUM! Restaurants International (Canada) LP University Entrance Scholarship
1 award, $1,000; available to students in their final year of high school who will be enrolling in September in Hospitality Management or Tourism Management programs, for professional promise, leadership, scholastic ability and work experience. CIBC Entrance Awards
3 awards, $500 each; available to graduates of Canadian High Schools from Vancouver Island or the Sunshine Coast; awarded for academic excellence combined with evidence of community involvement and/or entrepreneurship. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Coastal Community Credit Union Award
1 award, $350; available to current Nanaimo or Parksville/Qualicum campus ABE students, or residents of SD #68 or #69, who will be enrolling in full-time post-secondary studies for the first time, in the fall semester at any campus of VIU. Financial need will be considered, as well as academic performance (current ABE students). Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Culinary Institute of Vancouver Island at VIU Entrance Scholarships
3 awards, $1,000 each; available to high school or mature students who will be entering the Culinary Arts program at VIU in the up-coming school year, August or January intake. Selection will be based on academic excellence. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office. Two application periods: March 15 and April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the fall or spring term.
Frank Ney Memorial Entrance Award
1 award, $500; available to graduates of a Nanaimo High School entering an applied, technology or university program at VIU. Must demonstrate financial need. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Hayes Stewart Little Award
1 award, $400; for strong students with evident motivation who may not necessarily be in the top 5% academically and who demonstrate financial need; available to students entering a certificate, diploma or degree program in business at either the management or support level. Preference given to students graduating from Secondary School in the Cowichan Valley, SD #79. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Herold Engineering Entrance Award
1 award, $1,000; available to students entering the Engineering program at VIU. The intent of this award is to benefit a first year student who demonstrates strong academics / leadership in school, sports or clubs / volunteer and extra-curricular activities / commitment to their community. Applicants will be required to include an essay (up to 500 words) describing how they fulfill the criteria and a copy of their high school transcript. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Island Scallops - K'omoks First Nation Education Fund
1 award, $750; available to students entering or continuing at VIU who are community members of the K'omoks First Nation. Any degree, diploma or certificate program is eligible, with preference given to students entering or enrolled in the Fisheries & Aquaculture program. Applicants must contact the K'omoks Band Council for a letter of support. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15 and April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Island Scallops - Qualicum First Nation Education Fund
1 award, $750; available to students entering or continuing at VIU who are community members of the Qualicum First Nation. Any degree, diploma or certificate program is eligible, with preference given to students entering or enrolled in the Fisheries & Aquaculture program. Applicants must contact the Qualicum Band Council for a letter of support. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15 and April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Macville Foundation Entrance Award
1 award, full tuition (does not include Student Union or Activity fees), jointly funded by the Vancouver Island University Foundation and the Macville Charitable Foundation; available to students who have been accepted into a university transfer or degree program at VIU, were born on Vancouver Island or resided here for at least the last five years. The Macville Charitable Foundation was established to help Vancouver Island students acquire, through post-secondary education, the tools required to contribute significantly to society. The Foundation aims to strengthen the voice of students with financial need who have demonstrated their potential, motivation and commitment to higher education, and who have a vision for their on-going role as contributing members of society. Selection will be based on financial need, academic excellence and letters of recommendation. Applicants must submit an essay, as part of the application package, describing how they fulfill the award criteria. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds will be applied to fall and spring tuition in the upcoming school year.
Nicholas Plecas Entrance Scholarships
3 awards, $1,000 each; for academic excellence, available to students entering Bachelor of Science or Applied Science programs. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Nora Fulton Gibson Entrance Awards
3 awards, $500 each; for academic achievement and financial need; available to high school graduates or mature students entering VIU for the first time in any program. Preference to students from the Cowichan Valley. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Pisces Entrance Scholarship
1 award, $2,000; available to students of First Nations background, entering a degree program at VIU. Preference will be given to students entering the Bachelor of Business Administration program. Applicants must have attained a minimum gpa of 7.5 in the previous year (in high school, or VIU upgrading). Award will be renewed for the duration of the student's four year undergraduate program, as long as a cumulative gpa of 7.5 and a minimum course load of 60% is maintained. Applicants are requested to include a short bio with their application, outlining their background and aspirations. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Rotary Club of Parksville/District 69 Benevolent Association Entrance Award
1 award, $1,000; available to permanent residents of Parksville/Qualicum, SD #69, entering VIU in any post-secondary program, for academic excellence and financial need. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Royal Bank Award (Parksville/Qualicum)
1 award, $300; available to current Parksville/Qualicum Campus ABE students or residents of School District #69, who will be enrolling in full-time post-secondary studies for the first time, in the fall semester at any campus of VIU. Financial need will be considered, as well as academic performance (current ABE students). Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15 and April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Tommy Douglas Entrance Award
1 award, $500; for academic excellence, available to students proceeding directly from High School to post-secondary education at VIU. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Vancouver Island University Entrance Award for Students with Disabilities
1 award, $700; for academic achievement, available to first year students with a disability, enrolled in a full-time course load. Financial need will also be considered. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Vancouver Island University Entrance Scholarships for High School Students
Awards, $1,000 - $2,000; awarded for excellence; available to students graduating from each Regional High School entering VIU in any post-secondary program. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by March 15. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
VIU Chancellor's Entrance Scholarships for Aboriginal Students
6 full tuition scholarships available to top academic students from First Nations Communities, Friendship Centres and Metis Organizations on Vancouver Island (including Powell River). Students must have achieved an "A" average in High School and be enrolling in a 100% program course load at VIU. This scholarship is eligible for renewal, to a maximum of 5 years, providing students continue in their program with a 100% course load, and maintain a minimum semester and cumulative gpa of 8.0. A completed Application/Endorsement form and transcript must be submitted to the Financial Aid & Awards office, by the Education Counselor, by April 30. (These forms are available on this website January 15 - April 30).
VIU President's Entrance Awards for Scholar Athletes
8 full tuition awards available to top academic student athletes upon entrance to first year studies at VIU. One award is available for each of the following Mariner teams: Volleyball (men and women), Basketball (men and women), Soccer (men and women), Golf and Badminton, each year. Current grade 12 students must have attained an "A" average (minimum 86%) in grade 11, with no grade less than a "B". Students who have already graduated from high school must have attained an "A" average (minimum 86%) in grade 12. This award is eligible for renewal, to a maximum of 5 years, providing the student remains on the team, continues with a minimum 80% course load, and maintains a minimum cumulative gpa of 7.0 (B+). Selections for these awards are determined by the Athletic Department.
VIU President's Entrance Scholarships for Vancouver Island High School Students
One full tuition scholarship available to the top academic student from each Vancouver Island High School (including Powell River). Students must have achieved an "A" average in high school and be enrolling in a 100% course load in any degree program at VIU. This scholarship is eligible for renewal, to a maximum of 5 years, providing students continue in their degree with a 100% course load and maintain a minimum semester and cumulative gpa of 8.0. A completed Application/Endorsement form and transcript must be submitted to the Financial Aid & Awards office, by the high school principal, by April 30. (These forms are available on this website January 15 to April 30).

Vancouver Island University Board Members Award
1 award, $400; based on academic performance and financial need, for students entering third year of any VIU degree program. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Vancouver Island University Degree Entrance Scholarships
Awards, $1,000 each; available to students entering third year of the following degree programs: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Child & Youth Care, Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies, Bachelor of Natural Resource Protection, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Fisheries & Aquaculture, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Tourism Management. No application necessary. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Vancouver Island University Education Degree Entrance Scholarships
2 awards, $1,000 each; one available to students entering year three of the concurrent Bachelor of Education program; and one available to students entering year five of the Post-Baccalaureate Bachelor of Education program. No application necessary. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Vancouver Island University Faculty Association Degree Entrance Scholarship
1 award, up to full tuition; for students enrolled in a 100% course load and high GPA in second year, continuing into a degree program at VIU delivered by members of VIUFA. No application necessary. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the fall and spring terms.
VIU President's Scholarships for Continuing Students
6 full tuition scholarships available to top academic students who will be continuing their studies at VIU. One scholarship available to each of the following academic faculties: Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Health & Human Services, Education, Management, Science & Technology. Students must have achieved a minimum gpa of 8.0 in each of their first 3 semesters, while enrolled in an 80% course load. No application necessary. Funds will be awarded as a tuition credit for year three of studies, with eligibility for renewal each year until graduation, providing students maintain a cumulative gpa of 8.0, with an 80% course load.
GENERAL AWARDS: NOT SPECIFIC TO PROGRAM
These awards are not specific to any one Vancouver Island University program.
'A' British Columbia Media Studies Award
1 award, $1,000; available to 1st or 2nd year media Studies students, who will be continuing in the Media Studies program at VIU in the fall term. Awarded based on demonstrated promise and financial need. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Annette De Roux Memorial Award
1 award, $500; available to support promising Aboriginal and/or female students at the Cowichan Campus, with preference to students pursuing studies in Creative Writing, Arts, or Women's Studies. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards Office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Anthropology Club Awards
2 awards, $200 each; available to third or fourth year anthropology students. Must have minimum "B" average and demonstrated financial need. Students must submit a 300 word essay with their application. The essay should address the question, "How will you use anthropology in your career?" Apply to Anthropology Department by December 20th.
Art Mann Memorial Award
1 award, $500; based on financial need, available to residents of the Cowichan Valley (from Mill Bay to Ladysmith). Apply to Financial Aid & Awards Office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Audrey Gordon Awards
2 awards, $500 each; available to students who demonstrate outstanding character, effort and diligence, and whose contributions to the community as a whole deserve recognition and encouragement; financial need will also be considered. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Barbarah Nielsen Memorial Scholarship
1 award, $500; available to 4th or 5th year students, upon graduation, who intend to pursue graduate studies in Counselling Psychology or School Psychology. The award recognizes Barbarah's wonderful work in the many schools and communities she served over her life-long career. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards Office by January 15. Award will be issued in September, once enrolment at chosen institution is confirmed.
BMO Bank of Montreal Awards for BC Aboriginal Students
2 awards, $1,000 each; available to aboriginal students who will be continuing their studies in a diploma or degree program at VIU. Selection based on academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation National In-Course Awards
Awards, ranging in value from $4,000 to $10,000; available to full-time students (minimum 80% courseload), pursuing their first diploma or degree, (two year diploma students in first year, OR Associated Bachelor/Bachelor's Degree students in second year of studies). Must be active in community and school life and have demonstrated a commitment to the value of community service, leadership, innovation and academic excellence. Canadian Federation of University Women Cowichan Valley Award
1 award, $500; available to mature female students (minimum 20 years of age), enrolled or enrolling in any academic, technical, career or upgrading program at VIU, who have been a resident of the Cowichan Valley for at least one year, and who demonstrates financial need and academic achievement. Canadian Information Processing Society Award
1 award, $200; for academic achievement and financial need; available to students planning to earn a diploma in Computer Technology or a degree in Computer Science at VIU or another post-secondary institution. (Proof of registration will be required if attending another institution, and funds will be issued upon confirmation). Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. If attending VIU, funds will be awarded as a tuition credit for the fall term.
CanWest Global Communications Scholarship
1 award, $1,500; for students who have taken first or second year Media Studies courses at VIU, and are pursuing further education in Media Studies at VIU. Applicants must be full-time continuing students in any discipline who plan to continue with upper level courses. Award will be based on academic excellence and faculty recommendation. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Cloverdale Paint Awards
2 awards, $700 each; for full-time students who are Canadian Citizens and whose family resides in BC or Alberta, with a demonstrated commitment to community service and career or entrepreneurial activities. Preference to students related to employees of Cloverdale Paint. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Coastal Community Credit Union Award
1 award, $350; available to current Nanaimo or Parksville/Qualicum campus ABE students or residents of SD #68 or #69 who will be enrolling in full-time post secondary studies in the fall semester at either campus. Cowichan Dogwoods Chapter of IODE Award
1 award, $1,000; available to students attending the Cowichan Campus of VIU, and who are residents of the Cowichan Valley (Duncan, Mill Bay, or Shawnigan - not Lake Cowichan or Chemainus). Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Cowichan Foundation Awards
8 awards, $500 each; for financial need, available to residents of the Cowichan Valley (from Mill Bay to Ladysmith). Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Credit Union Foundation of BC Awards
2 awards, $500 each; available to students in any year of any program; must be a Canadian Citizen and BC resident. Financial need will be considered. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
CUPE Local 1858 Scholarship
1 award, $750; for academic excellence, available to continuing students who are members in good standing with CUPE Local 1858, or in the immediate family of a member of the local. Contact CUPE office for more information. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Cyril S. White & Family Scholarship
1 award, $1,000; available to students in any program, based on academic achievement. No application necessary. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
David & Margaret Bradbury Award
1 award, $400; available to full-time students in any program; based on GPA and a demonstrated history of community service. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
David Paul Rice Memorial Award
1 award, $250; available to students normally residing on Vancouver Island from Campbell River north, based on financial need. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
David Yates Award
1 award, $400; for leadership shown through contributions to student government, student newspaper, athletics, or other student activities; available to students returning for second, third or fourth year who demonstrate financial need. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by April 30. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Dean Lane Continuing Student Award
1 award, $500; awarded to a student in a program in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, who will be continuing in the fall term at VIU. The department or program is designated annually by the Dean of the Faculty. Based on academic excellence. No application necessary. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Dennis Alphonse Memorial Award
1 award, $500; for financial need, available to residents of the Cowichan Valley (from Mill Bay to Ladysmith), with preference given to First Nations students. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Diane Caillet Memorial Award
1 award, $500; available to students pursuing a future career in animal health or service, with a love for animals, who also volunteer in work which supports animals. Applicants will be required to submit a short essay (up to 500 words) describing how they fulfill the criteria. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Don Duncan Memorial Awards
2 awards, $450 each; available to students in Technology Programs: Fisheries & Aquaculture, Forest Resources, Resource Management; based on achievement and faculty recommendation. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Don Morton Memorial Award
1 award, $500; for financial need, available to residents of the Cowichan Valley (from Mill Bay to Ladysmith). Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Donna Allen Award
1 award, $1,000; available to students in any program, based on academic achievement. No application necessary. Funds issued in March.
Dr. Prem Shanker Award
1 award, $400; for academic achievement; available to continuing students in any program, with preference to members of the following religions: Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds awarded in March.
Elizabeth Newham Award
1 award, $500; available to deserving First Nations students attending the Cowichan campus of VIU; preference will be given to students enrolled in post-secondary studies, but consideration will be given to students progressing from ABE to post-secondary studies. No application necessary. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for the Fall term.
Essex & Kent - Stephen Salem Award
1 award, $1,000; available to 3rd and 4th year anthropology students, based on academic achievement and recommendation of faculty. No application necessary. Funds issued in March.
George Robbins Award

ATHLETICS
Michael Walker & Janice Tissington Badminton Award
1 award, $500; available to continuing full-time students, who are also continuing members of the Mariners Badminton Team. Selection will be based on recommendation of the coaches, and awarded for contributions to the team. Academic achievement will also be considered. No application necessary. VIU President's Entrance Awards for Scholar Athletes
8 full tuition awards available to top academic student athletes upon entrance to first year studies at VIU. One award is available for each of the following Mariner teams: Volleyball (men and women), Basketball (men and women), Soccer (men and women), Golf and Badminton, each year. Current grade 12 students must have attained an "A" average (minimum 86%) in grade 11, with no grade less than a "B". Students who have already graduated from high school must have attained an "A" average (minimum 86%) in grade 12. This award is eligible for renewal, to a maximum of 5 years, providing the student remains on the team, continues with a minimum 80% course load, and maintains a minimum cumulative gpa of 7.0 (B+). Selections for these awards are determined by the Athletic Department.
BUSINESS PROGRAMS
A. Rod Glen Business Management Award
1 award, $600; for Canadian Citizens who are BC Residents; available to students in the Bachelor of Business Administration Program. Financial need will be considered. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards office by January 15. Funds issued in March.
Canadian Western Bank President's Award
1 award, $2,500; available to 2nd or 3rd year BBA students who plan to pursue a career in banking, and demonstrate leadership qualities, community/school involvement. Applicants must be out-going and enjoy meeting/working with the public. Short-list of qualifying applicants will be interviewed by an external selection committee, before final selection. Successful recipient will have an opportunity for paid summer work experience with the Canadian Western Bank. Apply to Financial Aid & Awards by January 15th. Funds awarded as a tuition credit for 3rd or 4th year. In the case of 3rd year students, the award may be renewed for 4th year. This award is normally offered every two years.
Certified Management Accountants of BC Award
1 award, $1,500 remission of fees upon enrolment with the CMA program; for highest marks in Accounting 362; available to graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration program - Accounting concentration. No application necessary.
CGA Academic Excellence Scholarship

CGA Continuing Education Scholarship
1 award, $2,000; offered to a VIU Student who has graduated from the BBA-Accounting Concentration program, who is enrolling in the professional education program of the Certified General Accountants Association of BC. Securiguard Award
1 award, $500; selected annually by a committee of Criminology faculty members; to be awarded to a Criminology student deemed to have written the best paper during the academic year, for a VIU Criminology course, on a security issue. Appropriate topics may include, but are not limited to: public & private security (and issues relating to the surrendering of personal rights), crime prevention through environmental design, residential crime prevention programs, neighborhood / block watch, citizens on patrol, crime displacement, situational crime prevention, computer crime, and identity theft. Recipient would be expected to follow up with a community presentation learnings and results (event, inclusion in local media such as newspaper articles, etc), and to meet with the donors. College Transfer Entrance Award to Royal Roads University
1 award, $1,000; Students enrolled at Vancouver Island University who are planning to enter a Royal Roads University undergraduate program, may apply to VIU for a $1,000 tuition credit. An eligible candidate will be able to demonstrate achievement through academic or other preparation in one of our major theme areas: sustainable development, entrepreneurship, empowering leadership, and conflict analysis and management.
A complete application consists of an application form and a one page essay (application form and information available online at www.royalroads.ca/awards). Submit completed application package to the Financial Aid & Awards Office at VIU by May 23.

VIU EDUCATION FUNDS
Vancouver Island University / Chatwin Engineering - First Nations Education Fund
4 awards, $1,000 each; available to First Nations students who will be entering, or continuing, in any program at Vancouver Island University. One award available to band members, or community residents of each of the following: Huu-ay-aht First Nation, Snaw-naw-as First Nation, Ucluelet First Nation and Uchucklesaht Tribe. Generally funds will be issued as a tuition credit. Qualifying students can apply anytime on the application below, or through their band.
Vancouver Island University / VI Raiders Football Society Education Fund
Educational tuition credits are available to VI Raider players, upon successful completion of their first semester or term of study at Vancouver Island University, and for the duration of their studies at VIU. Continuation of funding is dependant upon students maintaining a satisfactory gpa, and availability of funds. Applications are available through the VI Raiders head coach.
