General Information

Fees

Fee payments will be accepted by cash, money order, Interac direct payment, credit card (VISA, American Express, MasterCard), or personal cheque. Credit card payment can be made online through Your Student Record.

Students who are unable to pay fees, and who cannot obtain financial assistance or sponsorship, should check with the Financial Aid & Awards office (250 740-6423) for further information. VIU reserves the right to cancel registration or withdraw an offer of admission to students who do not pay fees when required.

Students with outstanding debts to the University such as tuition fees, library fines, NSF cheques, parking violation fines, or overdue emergency loans will not be permitted to register and are not eligible to receive an official transcript of marks, certificate, diploma or degree until the accounts are paid.

Application Fee

A one-time, non-refundable Application Fee of $35 is charged for the development and processing of a student-record file. This fee must accompany the application. The Application Fee is not charged for most Continuing Education non-credit courses.

Appeals Fee

The appeals fee is $25, payable at the time of registering a formal appeal.

Co-operative Education Work Term Fee

Students in Co-operative Education work terms pay Co-op Fees, which are due during the second month of each work term.

Duplicate Copies

Students may obtain duplicate copies of income tax receipts for years previous to 2004 for $10 each. For 2004 and beyond, income tax receipts are available at no charge through their online student record. Duplicate certificates, diplomas and degrees are available at a charge of $35 for each copy.

Late Fee

In cases where a student has been allowed to remain enrolled after payment is due, a late fee of 10% of the outstanding tuition balance will be assessed and added to the overdue fees.

Official Transcript

An official statement of a student´s entire academic record at Vancouver Island University, certified by the Registrar, is available for order. Transcript orders are processed on a weekly basis however same–day service is available for rush orders. Information on transcript fees is available here. Note: Official transcripts will not be issued until all financial obligations to VIU have been cleared.

Returned Cheques Fee

Individuals who issue cheques that are returned by the bank as non-negotiable will be assessed a fee of $25 on each returned cheque. Returned cheques constitute a non-payment; VIU will not accept personal cheques from any student who has had more than one cheque dishonored by the bank.
