New Faller Training

The IWA, independent fallers, forest companies, and the WCB jointly determined one of the primary causes of falling accidents to be lack of a standardized comprehensive training program for fallers. The strategy recommended that fallers be trained and certified. The BC Faller Training Standard was developed to ensure that all fallers, regardless of where they work, receive the same high-quality training to meet the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 26.22. The goal of the BC Faller Training Standard is to ensure that anyone working as a faller has the knowledge, skills, abilities, work practices, and attitude necessary to work safely and productively. New Faller Training Program graduates are in demand. The workforce is aging and employers will need professionally trained and certified fallers to fill vacancies created by increased retirement rates in the industry.

New Faller Training Certificate Program

This 30 day program includes 5 days of class work and 25 days of closely supervised field training. Participants will receive a faller’s logbook which will be used to document the faller’s experience and competencies. Based on individual participant competency, this training will be followed with a certification examination - or up to 180 days of falling activity under close supervision, before registering for the faller certification exam.
