Education & Training

Research Education

The location of the CSR at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo has proven extremely beneficial for student training. Undergraduate students become involved in industry related research projects led by CSR research scientists. Interest and enthusiasm generated through this interaction often leads students to careers in the industry or on to graduate school.

To date, the CSR has supported over 30 undergraduate students and 4 graduate students to date including one M.Sc. graduate. The CSR has regular opportunities for students to assist with research projects.

Shellfish Training

The Centre for Shellfish Research (CSR) is pleased to offer a wide range of services. This CSR can coordinate, facilitate and deliver shellfish aquaculture training to BC communities coast-wide. Industry Education

A primary objective of the CSR is to facilitate the transfer of technology & training to industry. Part of this objective is achieved through the organization and/or facilitation of technology transfer and knowledge exchange workshops with industry stakeholders.

In addition to workshops, the CSR has completed the development of a successful training program that will meet the needs of a growing industry, particularly First Nation members.

The combination of shellfish research and shellfish training provides one-stop shopping for First Nations and should accelerate the future development of successful First Nations shellfish aqua-businesses.
