Intertidal Shellfish Culture Technician
This certificate provides students with the essential skills and knowledge to manage an intertidal tenure for the production of bivalve shellfish, including various species of clams and Pacific oysters. It offers a combination of practical field and lab activities, classroom learning and interaction, and an opportunity to engage in an actual clam seeding project on an intertidal tenure.
Students will develop an understanding of the intertidal environment and its relationship to shellfish culture. They will be able to practice husbandry techniques that ensure healthy product yields in an environmentally sustainable manner. In addition, they will be able to conduct shellfish inventories on intertidal tenures as well as harvest all products from the farm in accordance with shellfish sanitation regulations and product safety and quality standards.
