Research
The members of the Engineering Department engage in research activities in two main areas: Nanotechnology and Wireless Communications. Dr. Brian Dick has recently received funding for his project "Construction of a Carbon Nanotube Fabrication Facility" and is currently employing two students. Dr. Paris Polydorou is currently collaborating with Doug Stetar, a fellow faculty member from the Department of Media Studies and Digital Media Technology, on a project which combines social networking and massive multi player online gaming with mobile devices to promote sustainable travel. Our first year engineering students get a glimpse of Engineering Design and projects in the introductory course Engineering Fundamentals (ENGE 199). In this course the students work in teams to design and build a prototype application which uses the smarts of a Microcontroller to sense its environment and produce meaningful responses. For example, a team of students has designed a device which optimally aligns a solar cell in order to obtain maximum sunlight. For a more detailed description of this and other projects you may visit the ENGE 199 website:
