Excellence in Nursing Education Award
Marilyn Chapman, faculty member in our Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, received the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) Excellence in Nursing Education Award on April 7, 2011.
This award is presented to registered nurses who demonstrate excellence in nursing education.
Excellence needs to be demonstrated in at least four of the following areas:
- consultation, including tutoring, advising and thesis or major paper supervision;
- program, curriculum or course design and development;
- innovative teaching methods;
- educational planning and policy-making; and
- production of educational materials (study guides, instructional materials and resources, audiovisual aids, textbooks).
Through the testimonies received for her nomination the impact Marilyn had on the education of registered nurses, her colleagues, and in the community is clear. From her pioneering and collaborative work in developing a new nursing curriculum, her mentorship of colleagues, her social awareness and community involvement, Vancouver Island University has been more than fortunate to have someone like Marilyn as part of its faculty.
