Malaspina Art Society presents "Creative Expressions Brain Art Studio"

The May 'Malaspina Art Society' art show will be by the Powell River Brain Injury Society Creative Expressions Brain Art Studio.

This show will feature the work of several artists. They each have their own distinctive style. There will be displays of painting both in watercolor and acrylic, sketching using various mediums, metal sculpture and other types of art sculpture.

Opening reception Thursday May 10, 7-9pm.
Art show runs May 10 to June 5.

Web Registration Drop-In Session

Ebb & Flow

Presented by Nanaimo Art Gallery

Sonny Assu + Rande Cook
May 18-September 1, 2012

The current exhibition at the campus Nanaimo Art Gallery entitled Ebb & Flow, showcases the distinctive voices of contemporary Aboriginal artists Sonny Assu and Rande Cook.

Trained in both traditional and contemporary practices, Assu and Cook push boundaries to redefine what society understands and expects of First Nations art and culture. Their work preserves elements of their cultural heritage, and explores new concepts, media and methodologies.

Rande Cooke is giving an artist talk in the Gallery bldg. 330, June 1, 4:30-5:30 pm, followed by a First Nations Feast and Celebration at Shq'apthut: Gathering Place, bldg. 170, 6:00-9:00 pm.

All are welcome. Admission is free.

Free Docent Led Tours: 12.30pm-1:15 pm, Saturday, July 7 & August 11

Presented in partnership with Vancouver Island University's Shq'apthut: Gathering Place and VIU Office of Aboriginal Education.

VIUSU Annual Broom Bust

Presented by Vancouver Island University Students' Union

Scotch Broom was introduced to Vancouver Island in 1850. Since then it has wreaked havoc on the natural ecosystem. Join the movement to eliminate scotch broom permanently!

We will be busting broom at the top of the Nanaimo VIU campus, by building 395. Register at the VIUSU bldg 193 or show up at the broom busting site ready for action.

Cutting tools will be supplied, gloves are recommended.

All Students are welcome!
