MVP OF PROVINCIALS JOINS MARINERS
MVP of the 2007 BC AAA Sr Boys High School Championships, PATRICK MCCARTHY has signed on with Mariners for the upcoming season. Pat played his high school ball with the AAA provincial champion Dover Bay Dolphins.
He averaged 20 points a game at the BC's.
.
Daily News feature

Pat is a 6'7" forward that will be a huge addition to the Mariner front line. Pat has been extremely well coached over the past few years (by former Mariner coach Mark Simpson), and is about as fundamentally sound as it gets. You put his work ethic and energy with it, and you have yourself an impact type player.
The best thing about him is you know what you are going to get every single night.
Pat had options, but has decided to stay home for school and play in front of family and friends for a year or two, then re-evaluate his options from there...and we could not be happier. He is a top academic student as well, and comes from a great family. We are more than excited to have such a character young man join our program.

M's RECRUIT TOP BBALL ALL-STAR
Verbally committed to Malaspina Men's Basketball is JACOB THOM a 6"1" point Guard from the Prince Rupert Rainmakers. Jacob was a first allstar at the "AA" High School Provincials and a MVP in the North West Zone "AA" Championships.

Jacob is a solid all around point guard that really does a little bit of everything. He is a great passer in the open floor, and has the ability to make those around him better in the half court. He can also score, rebound and defend. This young man almost averaged a triple double at this years AA championships...which is almost unheard of. He is very long, with a 6'6" wing span, which helped him win the top defender at the tournament as well.
Daily News story
As Jacob continues to fill out and grow as a player, I expect great things from him. He is what I call a "basketball junkie" (loves to be in the gym), so the sky could be the limit for this young man. After watching Jacob several times over the course of the season, I personally feel he is one of the top high school point guards in all of the province this recruiting year. I am extremely excited to have him on board, and look forward to watching him grow as a player, and leader. Comments by Tony Bryce Head Coach

The Men's team also had a productive weekend disposing of a worthy opponent the UBC - O Lakers in 4 games. CNC's men's team were a no show and therefore defaulted the match. Our men are now 13-3 and 1st place in the league is up for grabs in this final week of league play. Three teams have a 13-3 record and the M's face one of them this weekend. See the BCCAA league standings for all the details.

Lindsay McLoughlin led the attack both days with 16 kills against Cap and 10 versus Douglas. Leigh Dreher had 13 digs on Friday night and on Saturday it was Aileen Holders leading the way with 12 digs.
See Dakstats for more details.

ON THE ROAD ...the Basketball teams managed only one victory on the weekend. A two point win over Capilano was huge !! Our women's team could only score 26 points versus Douglas putting them in a battle for a playoff spot.
