Saturday Sept 29 @ Capilano
Mariners faced the league's first place team that is ranked
7th in the national rankings....... the M's came out strong
and were the better team for most of the scoreless first half,
Sarah Schermerhorn missed a clear break a way in the 25th
minute, Capilano came out strong to start the second half
and were rewarded with a 56th marker that M's keeper
Austyn Brackett had no chance on, Malaspina came on and
created plenty of opportunities before defender Aileen Holder's
rocket from 40 yards out found the corner of the net in the
73rd minute, five minutes later Monni Dumas beat two
defenders and found Schermerhorn in front of the net who made
no mistake by putting the ball in the back of the net, Schermerhorn in
the 85th minute scored the third on a break a way to
make the final 3-1 for Malaspina.
Sunday Sept 30 @ Mariner Field
Malaspina playing with confidence gained in the previous
days victory came out firing but weren't rewarded on
the score sheet, Danis Bachek had the best chance as she fired
wide from close range, Katie Day hit the crossbar
later in the first half, in the second half Capilano settled
and created more of a mid field game with both teams having
a hard time creating chances. The game ended scoreless, with
the draw Malaspina picked up 4 of possible 6 points from a
first place team.
