Mariner Press Release

The M's first game saw them take on the hosts Capilano losing a close fight 60-59. The Mariners paced by 4 th year captain and former BCCAA all-star Jason Hubbs who poured in 23 points and hauled in 5 boards. Other Mariner contributors included Graham Giske with 12 points   and Freshman Henry Bui with 9 points 9 rebounds. Malaspina lead early in the contest by as much as 19 points however the savy blues battled back and made the game a tight contest which was decided by 2 free throws for the Blues in the last seconds of the game.

The Men's second game of the tournament saw them take on the talent laden Douglas Royals. The M's once again jumped out to an early lead only to watch it slip away in the latter stages of the game losing in a final score of 75-62. The M's lead by as much 13 points in the first half but saw Douglas but together an 18-5 run in late in the second half to pull away from the Mariners. The Mariner's were lead by Graham Giske (20 points 6 assists), Jason Hubbs (14 points 6 assists), and Jordan Kinakin (11 points 6 rebounds).

In the final game of the tournament the Mariner Men defeated the Kwantlen Eagles

65-42. The M's saw 9 on 12 players score while their team defense held the Eagles to just 18 second half points! The Mariner's where once again lead by their captain Jason Hubbs with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Other mariner highlights included a 9 point 9 rebound game for Jordan Kinakin, and freshman Henry Bui who pulled down 6 offensive rebounds to make his total 8 boards for the game.

The Mariners finished 1-2 with a 4 th place finish in the tournament.

Jason Hubbs was named a 1 st team tournament All-Star.
