Saturday Oct. 18 Game vs Capilano.

For the second game in a row Mariner women faced a do or die game vs Capilano, VIU came out strong but the Blues slowly started to control the play and had more possession for the rest of the half but really didn't create any quality chances in fact Mariner Jolene Nagy on a break way and Angela Losch on a counter attack should have put home team ahead going into halftime.

Halftime score 0-0

The Lady Mariners started the second half with more passion in their game and created numerous scoring chances before Losch with a terrific finish from 12 yards out made it 1-0 in the 60th minute, VIU went up 2-0 when Jolene Nagy from the penalty spot calmly tucked it into the corner, Sarah Schermerhorn had earned the penalty kick when she was taken down by the Blues keeper on a breakway, with the win Mariners are three points behind Cap and needing a win against the same team on Sunday in the last regular season game to qualify for the playoffs. "We are finally playing to our ability and playing a full 90 minutes, if we play the same way tomorrow we should get it done, it's do or die for the third game in row and for the first two we have responded well"

Sunday Oct. 19, VIU @ Capilano

Mariners needing a win to qualify for the provincials came out flat and were punished when Capilano forward Jamey Horth headed a ball into the top corner of the net to give the Blues a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute, VIU started to get their legs and took the game over creating numerous scoring chances before a Aileen Holder free kick found the back of the net to tie it up in the 35th minute.

Halftime 1-1

Second half started with the Mariners dominating but were again punished when against the run of play Blues player Kimmie March dribbled around two VIU defenders to get a clear path to the net where she sent a rocket past Mariner keeper Courtney Crucil and give Capilano a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute, the Mariners needing two goals or the season was over started to play with more desperation and should have been rewarded before Heather Iverson tied it up in the 88th minute, VIU player Katie Day in the 90th minute was all alone in front of the but misfired. Final score 2-2. "This one was tough to take, we deserved better, we had a 14 to 4 edge in quality scoring chances and 8 to 2 edge in corners, that's been the story all year dropping points when we really dominated teams, we still have fairly young team so the future is bright"
