MARINERS RISE TO CHALLENGE

The
Malaspina Mariners women's volleyball team proved it can play
with anyone.
The lady M's returned to the court after the holiday break
to play two matches Friday and Saturday at the Vancouver Island University
gymnasium.
The team won both matches, including a big 21-25, 25-20, 25-20,
20-25, 15-11 win over the Capilano Blues Saturday. It was
the lady Blues' first loss this season in B.C. Colleges' Athletic
Association play.
The day before, the M's women handled the Langara Falcons
25-20, 25-19, 25-16. Rudi Kitzmann had 15 kills and 10 digs
in the match.
Meanwhile, the Mariner men's volleyball team went 1-1 on the
weekend.
The men overcame a slow start against Langara to win 18-25,
26-24, 25-22, 25-20, but then lost to Cap College the next
day 16-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17.
Both Mariner volleyball teams are at home again this coming
weekend. The women begin play against the College of the Rockies
Friday (Jan. 21) at 6:30 p.m. and the men follow at 8:15 p.m.
The next day, the M's ladies play the Okanagan Lakers at 1
p.m. and the men begin play at 3 p.m.
