The Mariners' work finally paid off on the weekend.
Malaspina's women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over the
Kwantlen Eagles Sunday at Mariner Field, snapping a four-game
losing skid.
Co-coach Anup Kang said the team has been competitive every
game, but bad bounces have cost the M's better positioning
in the standings.
"The group knows that they've played some great soccer,
they just haven't got the results," he said. "So they feel
good about themselves."
Rather than get frustrated, the lady M's have continued
to try to define themselves by their work ethic.
"We've outworked every team," Kang said. "We're a very
hard-working team and once you mix that with skill, you're
going to get some success."
On Saturday, the M's had lost 3-1 to the UBC-Okanagan Lakers.
Malaspina's men's soccer team was also overpowered by its
UBC-O counterparts Saturday, losing 5-1, but the team was
better Sunday in a 1-1 tie against Kwantlen.
This coming Sunday (Sept. 30), the Mariners teams will
host the second half of a home-and-home series against the
Capilano Blues. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Mariner
Field.
