VIU started strong and controlled the play for most of the first half, Kate Flynn was a handful for UVic defenders, Flynn had two clear chances, one on a semi breakaway in the first 10 minutes of the game to give Mariners the lead, Vikings who are strong contenders in CIS took the lead in the 40th minute on a cross from the wing and a quality finish by the UVic striker,

VIU changed it's formation and gave some of the younger players an opportunity in the second half and a veteran UVic line-up took advantage with two more strikes. "we accomplished what wanted at this point of the pre season and can take a lot of positives from this game, whenour starters were matched up with UVic's top players in the first half we were right there with them, veterans Andrea Strebel andAileen Holder had real strong games,First Year Keeper Hollis Roberts showed why she is going to be one of the top keepers in the league"
Freshman Brittany Shillingford suffered an ankle injury near the end of the first half "hopefully it's not going to be too serious, she can really help uson the backline with her blinding speed"
