21/10/07 - A SOLID FINISH FOR SOCCER
The women's team won both games this past weekend but it was not enough to make playoffs. A 3-1 win over Okanagan and a 2-1 win over Kwantlen left them in fifth place and just 2 points out of provincials. The Men's team defeated Okanagan 5-0 on Saturday and then lost 5-2 against Kwantlen on Sunday. The Men wrapped up their season with a 4wins , 6losses and 4 ties placing them 6th in the BCCAA and 7points out of a playoff spot.

08/10/07 - FINAL HOME SOCCER GAMES
The roadtrip to Prince George and Kamloops resulted in a win and a tie for our men ...not bad. Cameron Fagan in his first start as a Mariner and his parents in the stands scored the first, second, third and fourth goals. All four of the Mariners goals in the 4-1 victory. INCREDIBLE !!
The women managed only a tie against UNBC and lost to TRU.
Women's game summary.
The men tied TRU 2-2 on sunday.

25/09/07 - SOCCER
headerSoccer teams salvage a win and a tie from the weekend. SCOTT HOSON scored both days for the Mariner men. GAME PHOTOS
Against Kwantlen it was enough to tie the game but against UBC-O it had little effect as the Lakers scored 5 times. The UBC-O women also had more offense than the M's lone goal from HEATHER IVERSON but GILLIAN HARDY'S goal vs Kwantlen stood for the winner.

MARINERS FINALISTS
!!
sarah
Mariner Ladies played against five of the top Premier Division teams from Lower Island Women's League in the Castaway's Labour Day Weekend Tournament, VIU played great soccer during the weekend which earned the M's a place in the finals vs Gordon Head Premier. VIU dominated and created chances but couldn't find the back of the net with Chelsea Forseth coming close on a shot that just missed. Gordon Head scored from a corner kick with 10 minutes left in the game on it's only shot on goal to win 1-0,  first year Mariner Sarah Schermerhorn was named MVP for the tournament as she was a force in all games."we improved with each performance, we have a real exciting team that plays high tempo soccer"
VIU's defense played great soccer with centerback Aileen Holder dominating the middle of the pitch.

29/08/07 - MARINER WOMEN'S SOCCER vs UVIC !!
VIU Women's Soccer team played Uvic on Tuesday, August 28 @ UVic.
UVic came out strong to start the game and scored the opening goal in the 10th minute when the Mariner's turned the ball over which sent the Vikings on a clear breakaway. The Mariners struck back in the 18th minute when defender Kari Watson's cross was headed by a UVic defender into her own net. Vikings again took control of the game and scored 5 minutes later to make it 2-1, the Vikings had a couple more chances before the half but goalie Austyn Brackett was brilliant in keeping it 2-1.

28/08/07 - MARINERS vs UVIC
Continued ...
UVic again came out strong to start the second half and were rewarded for their good play when a cross to the far post was tapped in to make it 3-1, Lady Mariners then had their best spell of the match and finally started to get a flow to their game and were rewarded with a brilliant goal by University of Regina transfer Sarah Schermerhorn in the 61st minute, Kari Watson made a great pass to Schermerhorn who then beat a couple of Vikings before putting the ball into net. The score stayed the same until the 78th minute when Vikings left midfielder scored after a scramble inside the penalty box, the home squad scored again in the 81st minute to make the final score 5-2.
Freshman Danis Bachek and Aileen Holder had very strong games for Lady M's.

"We took a lot of positives out of this game, took us a while to realize we can play with them, our competitive level was very high and that's a great sign".
