Vancouver Island University, established in 1969, is a public, degree-granting institution that offers university and college programs. VIU currently has over 10,000 full-time Canadian students and 1,000 international students from more than 40 countries.
VIU’s Faculty of Management offers undergraduate and graduate business and tourism programs that provide an enriched learning experience and prepare graduates to be leaders in a world where demands are constantly changing and expectations rising. Our programs appeal to recent graduates and those individuals who require higher education for career advancement or specialized training to broaden their educational background.
The School of Business offers various undergraduate diplomas and the Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, we offer the Post-Degree Diploma in Business Studies (PDDB) and the Master of Business Administration (MBA/MScIB) Program. The School of Business is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
Facilities
VIU has four campuses located in the
Central Vancouver Island region. The main
campus, which hosts the MBA/MScIB Program, is in the City of Nanaimo. This
scenic, 110-acre campus overlooks the coastal
mountains of the British Columbia mainland and
is about a 5 minute bus ride from downtown
Nanaimo. VIU offers a 294-seat theatre,
a new Library, bookstore, research centres, art
gallery, and two Japanese gardens.
The new Faculty of Management Centre includes a lounge for graduate business students, lecture theatres, two new computer labs and seminar/break-out rooms for group activities. All rooms are technologically enhanced in order to simulate a creative business environment and the building has wireless access throughout.
VIU’s new main library in Nanaimo offers over 230,000 books/journals, online resources, viewing rooms and multimedia computer stations. Much of the campus has wireless capability.
In addition to the natural beauty of the region, which lends itself to many outdoor activities, VIU has a 20,000-square-foot gymnasium that features a fitness and weight room and multipurpose room. A four hundred-room Student Residence Village is also available on campus.
Facilities within a five minute walking distance include an indoor aquatic centre with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, wave pool and water slides; dual indoor ice rinks for skating and ice hockey; a 400 metre track, soccer and baseball fields; and an outdoor basketball and sand volleyball court (located in the Student Residence Village).
