Booking a Media Station
Most workstations in the Library and Malaspina Commons are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are expected to show respect to their colleagues by a) using computers for educational purposes rather than personal ones (particularly during peak use times) and b) refraining from "reserving" stations by leaving personal items at stations for long periods of time while absent.
Three Media stations, equipped with specialized software and hardware, may be booked ahead of time by VIU Students and employees for up to 3 hours per day for course-related media production work.
You may book these stations only for using the specialized equipment available on them (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite applications, Macromedia web development applications, slide scanning, memory card access, etc.) In other words, it is not appropriate to book a media workstation to use Microsoft Word, the Internet, or any other application that is widely available in the Library and Malaspina Commons and in other campus computer labs. The point of making these workstations "bookable" is so VIU Students and employees needing to use specialized technology, that is not available elsewhere on campus, will be able to access this technology when they need it.
You'll find binders containing printed weekly timetables near the bookable workstations. Write your name in the time slot you want to book.
See our Video Editing and Audio Editing pages for information on booking editing suites.
