Highlights for 2012
- Discontinuing Urgent Technical line #300. Information Technology Services will be discontinuing the use of the Urgent Technical Support #300 phone service for Instructional Audio Visual or Computer Support calls in classrooms and labs on April 15th, 2012.
The IT Helpdesk has improved call handling procedures and in-class urgent technical issues will be more efficiently resolved through directly dialling local 6300. This is only a phone programming change. Existing phones will not be removed. All phones that previously could dial #300 will be able to dial 6300.

Highlights for Fall 2011
- NEW Pay for Print system. Students can add money to their payprint account online at https://payprint.viu.ca. Print jobs with your Discovery account username and password. For step by step printing instructions click here.
- Students: Don't Lose Your Work. Always save to your Discovery U: drive NOT to My Documents. See our File Management Basics.
- NEW for loan at Equipment Loans:
- Web cam kits including a web camera and headphones with microphone.
- Equipment Loans laptops are also now loaded with Skype (a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet).
- iPad dock connector to VGA adapter to allow iPad users to connect to a data projector.

If you want to login on campus to your VIU Discovery or Capitan account you will need to connect the laptop to the network using the included network cable. The laptops can also be used with a local login if you are using a USB drive, playing a DVD/CD or accessing the Internet via the campus S-WISP wireless network.

Fall 2011 Tip
Outlook Archive files (.PSTs) that are saved on the network are NOT backed up.
If the Outlook Archive file becomes corrupted or is deleted it cannot be recovered. ITS recommends that Archived Outlook files be stored on CDs/DVDs or USB drives. A copy can be restored onto your computer so that you can easily access it from within Outlook.
